In the third stop on their Garage Art tour of Asia, skate/surf wear brand Insight brings their Chief Creative Director Steve Gorrow to The Source this weekend for what promises to be an exciting look into a region of art that blends street art, pop art, advertising and installation. Gorrow will be showcasing original installations as well as prints and selections from some of his more famous Garage Art projects and marketing campaigns in the past.
An Australian native, Gorrow is famous in the fashion world for his fresh approach to brand marketing, with ad campaigns merging into art installations and cultural commentary. His campaigns “Repeat after me: I am Free” and “Dopamine” won him accolades in both the art and fashion industries.
According to an interview with Creative Hunt, his new Fall/Winter 2011 campaign brings the art/ad realms even closer: “Instead of morphing it back into skate and surf, we just have skate, surf and art. It’s worked out really well, a lot of fun [and in keeping with Insight as a lifestyle brand]. It’ll be released in December this year.”
Where: The Source 158 Xinle Lu, near Donghu Lu; 新乐路158号, 近东湖路
The installation at The Source will have plenty to show of Gorrow’s past and present work, in various media formats (apparently including a skate ramp he painted last weekend.) The opening party this Saturday will undoubtedly feature plenty to drink (courtesy of Vedett), listen too (courtesy of Kami) and look at. If you can’t make the party, be sure to catch the exhibit before it ends on November 30.
