What a shame! The Nut, the art warehouse loft that so generously helped us host our Halloween party this year, will soon be no more. But it’s not the only thing on its block to go – apparently the entire 1147 Kangding Lu converted factory space, of which it was a part of, is set to be demolished and turned into… well, something that’s not quite as artsy.
The Nut on Kanding Lu will soon be no longer. That’s right, 1147 Kanding Lu is joining the ranks of countless of buildings Shanghai-wide and is facing imminent demolition.
At last night’s preview of the space’s super new show, Shanghai Express, organizer Martino Butti was undeterred: “The Nut became a community more than a venue, so we’re sure we can continue our mission – there’s lots of possibilities in Shanghai”.
We emailed Martino for more details, but he’s not quite sure what’s happening either – just that they aren’t allowed to stay. They have no plans for any kind of goodbye bash, so your last chance for wandering in and around that big red thingy will be checking out their current show, Shanghai Express, an exhibition that comprises works by 18 engraving artists representing the contemporary print scene in Spain. That ends next Friday, December 17th.
