It’s looking pretty bleak for the local music scene this winter. Yuyintang has announced plans to undergo renovations, closing in January and reopening as late as March. I’m thinking they could do without the backwards sloping floor (somehow tiny Asian girls always get stuck back there) and those elevated tables in the back. Who sits there anyway?
UPDATE: The people over at Mao say they are still here to stay. “We will close for two weeks in March or April to move equipment to the new location once it is renovated, but the current venue will stay fully operational until then.” And as we’ve been expecting for a while now, Mao Livehouse will be closing down as Red Town developers eat up our only decently equipped large-ish venue. I mean, can anybody see Peaches performing at the Dream Factory?? Apparently Mao’s owners have pinned down a new location on ChongQing Lu and plan to reopen in March or April. Until then, I suggest you catch what shows are left. Or just go home, think about Logo and cry.
