Yesterday or the day before, you may have seen massive lines outside of various post offices around the city. What were they for? Was it a run to mail out seasons greetings before a sudden mid-week post office closure? Had some authority explained that certain life-changing government programs, be it for employment or housing or something equally important, needed to be registered for immediately? Or did some new must have collectible doohickey come out?
Yep, it was option number three. People like the 72-year-old Mr. Xie allegedly lined up for 36 hours at the Shanghai Postal Building on Sichuan Road in order to get their hands on commemorative Year of the Rabbit stamps. No word on whether these stamps have any magical powers other than being limited edition.
Anyhow, in case you’re curious, here’s a close up view of what they look like. Each stamp depicts a rabbit against a full moon and has a value of 1.20 yuan.
