Yesterday, at Happy Valley, it was pretty much every rider’s worst nightmare come true when a rollercoaster carrying 25 people suddenly stopped at its highest point, some 60m above ground.
At 12:55pm on Tuesday, the Diving Coaster ride malfunctioned suddenly and left riders terrified and stranded for half an hour. No injuries were reported and the group was eventually rescued from their ordeal using an emergency stairway. According to the park, the problem originated with the sensors which stopped working possibly due to cold weather.
Freak stories like these make you think twice about going to Chinese theme parks whose safety measures probably aren’t the best in the world. The Diving Coaster has several loops on the course though so I’m sure those 25 are thanking their lucky stars they weren’t stuck hanging upside down.
