James Fallows didn’t think Jon Huntsman 2012 would be a reality, and to be honest, neither did we. But the US ambassador to China has just sent in his resignation late yesterday, in a move that seemed to catch White House officials by surprise.
Nobody knows if he’ll be running for the top job next year, but as an ambassador, he will, as the WaPo notes, be a difficult figure to replace. We’ll be watching with interest to see who Obama sends to Beijing once Huntsman steps down in April.
