Here is a stunning set of pictures that we missed earlier, but thought we’d share anyway. The photographs were taken by Oriental Morning Post journalists Liu Xingzhe and Lu Haitao just right after the Jingan fire had been put out and while the building was still smouldering.
Why put up such sad images on the eve of Chinese New Year, you ask? Well, two years ago, on Yuanxiao Jie (元宵节), which marks the culmination of the 15-day Lunar New Year festivities, stray fireworks burnt up a landmark building in Beijing.
So, if you’re playing with fireworks over the next two weeks, be very careful. We really don’t need another big fire to mar the new year.
