Glamour bar’s swing dancing night returns, the Roots and Shoots organization is screening a film about their founder, Jane Goodall, which contains some never before release footage. Amy Sommers is sharing what she unearthed about the disappearing historic buildings of Shanghai, and on Sunday, you can eat all the ice cream you want for breakfast. ROOTS & SHOOTS FILM “JANE’S JOURNEY” Roots & Shoots volunteers are hosting a screening of “Jane’s Journey”, a documentary chronicling Roots & Shoots founder Dr. Jane Goodall’s life as a world-renowned primatologist and UN Messenger of Peace. This film follows her travels across several continents as she spreads the message of hope for future generations and offers an intimate portrait, including previously unreleased stock footage. There will be a raffle draw at the event while proceeds go towards the Million Tree Project. There’ll be additionally showings on Saturday 11am and 5pm at the Community Center, Pudong.

AMY SOMMERS’ “DISAPPEARING SHANGHAI” The Royal Asiatic Society is bringing in Amy Sommers to talk about the history of Shanghai housing from 1949 to the present. As part of her research on the pre-war residential housing market and historic urban residential neighborhoods, Ms. Sommers interviewed city residents from decades past. Images of Shanghai’s disappearing old neighborhoods shot by Ms. Sue Anne Tay, the photographer and blogger behind “Shanghai Street Stories” (http://sueannetay.webfactional.com/) will be shown too.

VOLUNTEER AT AN ANIMAL SHELTER Second Chance Animal Aid needs volunteers to groom, play with, and give tender loving care to cats and dogs at a foster home that serves about 130 abandoned animals. The foster home is about forty-five minutes outside of Shanghai and volunteers meet promptly at 9:30 to receive instructions and information.
