Have you been meaning to give your free time in meaningful ways to the city that you’ve chosen as your adopted home?
Well here’s a programme that we can all get behind. Enter the Volunteer Professionals Programme, a pilot project by Hands On Shanghai “designed to provide NGOs access to the talent and support of Professionals who are willing and able to provide short-term, professional advice, guidance, training or other expertise so that the NGOs can better achieve their goals of helping their target groups”.
They’re currently on the lookout for four volunteers to work with two partner NGOs to help them build their internal skills and capacity. What makes this an attractive volunteer opportunity for all you busy folks is that the projects are all short-term (ie., 2-3 months) and require only a limited time commitment (about 4-5 hours per month).
Here are the projects:
Client: A local Shanghai NGO supporting the deaf to gain employment and regain a sense of value and social identity.
Project: Needs a professional Accountant to run a training programme for their internal accounting staff.
Professional role: 5+ years of accounting experience, some training experience
Support role: Graduate in accounting
Client: A local Shanghai NGO of International Medical Professionals providing health education and safety training. Their mission is to educate and motivate people to live safer and healthier lives at home, work, school, or playing by reducing injuries, deaths, human suffering and losses caused by preventable accidents.
Project: To redesign their professional, bilingual website (2.0) to make it more effective, interactive and easier to operate. Would like to emphasize security and back-up for data.
Professional role: Experienced web programmer/ designer, bilingual and some experience of promoting healthcare preferred.
Support role: Graduate in IT with some experience in web design.
