Most of you have no doubt heard about the devastating earthquake that struck Christchurch recently. Over a hundred people were killed after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the city and the death toll continues to rise daily. In light of the disaster, the New Zealand community in Shanghai and friends are banding together to hold a earthquake appeal ball on Saturday, April 2.
From the organizers:
In response to the terrible earthquake and continued suffering in our city of Christchurch, KEA, the New Zealand community and our many friends in China wish to invite you to a premier event which will directly benefit the families of victims and a community in real trauma.
The city of Christchurch suffered a major 7.1 magnitude earthquake on September 4th 2010 and countless shocks since. On February 22, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit causing major destruction and loss of life, plunging Christchurch and New Zealand into what maybe the nations worst ever natural disaster. The people of Christchurch demand our attention and our solidarity.
The Kiwi Ball, while featuring the best of New Zealand’s finest produce and entertainment, will also be a choice opportunity to make a contribution to those in need. All are welcome to attend and 100% of the proceeds will be going to the New Zealand Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal. The organizers are also still looking for sponsorship, auction items, and donations. Please contact [email protected] if you’re interested in being involved.
