What: Bineel Orange Slushie
From Where: In the food mall at the Line 9 Dapuqiao subway station
Why you should grab a bite: Remember how when news of 7 Eleven first came to town, everybody was excited about the possibilities of slushies (readers have pointed out that they’re called Slurpies. But they’re still slushies – just branded – no?)? And then when they actually got built and everyone went to find out there were no slushies, the audible awwws of disappointment? Looks like we didn’t need 7 Eleven in the first place.
Located in the mall food court of Dapuqiao, the subway stop right across the street from Tianzifang, Bineel serves various flavors of iced slush. We picked the orange, but there was also grape, cola, strawberry, grapefruit and a couple other flavors. Best of all, you’re allowed to mix. In fact, when the attendant took ours to the machine (they don’t seem to let you mix it yourself, unfortunately), she seemed puzzled we didn’t want anything besides just the orange.
The slushie itself was more flavorful than its colors would have you suppose. Icy and refreshing, without that sickening mouthfeel the really chemically slushies sometimes can have. Once it comes to summer, this will be hard to pass by.
