For those who love delivery, Sherpa’s new menu book came out yesterday. In it are some new Italian restaurants, the now competing chicken empires (Brasa and Funky), My thai @ hiro, and fancy Xinjiang place Xibo. We’re most excited about the news that ordering between 2pm to 5pm now means no delivery fees! Pick up one wherever it is you normally grab a Sherpa’s book.
ShanghaiExpat is trying to start up a foodie group – if you’re into dining with a bunch of strangers (and possibly friendz-by-the-end-of-the-night!), try out their Tasty Tuesdays. The first one will be at Mi Tierra on March 22 and cost 138rmb per person. You need to make your reservations here.
More foodie news after the jump
Urbanatomy does a quick profile of two companies that make crazy cakes – Ichido and Wow! Cake. I;ve passed by Wow! Cake before and their small shop is definitely worth a look through – it;s like staring into a real-life version of one of those Food Network reality shows. You can find it on the same street as Simon’s Test Kitchen: 555 Anyuan Lu near Jiaozhou Lu, (安远路555号).
There seems to be a new trend in ultra-small dining. Laris recently opened 12 chairs, right above Yucca in Sinan Mansions (it gets its name from the fact that there’s only 12 chairs) and now the guys at Franck have created a tiny little communal table for Italian pizzas called a Côté
Going back to Laris, Yucca’s started a Ladies’ Night deal for Wednesdays – “girlie” martinis for 35rmb and if you come with a group of four, you’ll get a bottle of sparkling wine for free. Sounds like a lot of sugar. Also, he was recently profiled by Forbes.
We found out last week from SmartShanghai that Y’s Table – the Italian/Japanese buffet in the basement of the SWFC – is closing. Who knew that nobody would want to go to one of the tallest buildings in the world to sit under sea level?
Speaking of closings, we hear that long-time Indian stalwart Vedas may be closing their Jianguo Lu digs in a couple of months – their lease is nearly up and the landlord doesn’t want to renew. But they won’t be closing for good, they’re currently looking for a new location to set up shop.
