Newly viral on the Chinese internets: A well-dressed and apparently rich Shanghainese woman throws up a fit when asked by a shop assistant in a piano store to not place her bag on the expensive grand piano. As she’s slamming the piano with her handbag, the store manager comes along and tries to calm her down, adding that he may have to call security otherwise. The woman then throws them a credit card and says she’s buying the piano, at which point she is informed by the manager that the Steinway costs RMB1.06 million. Interestingly, throughout the video, the woman speaks only in Shanghainese, even though the store employees are talking to her in Mandarin.
Uploaded on Mar 8 (ie., International Women’s Day), the video has since gained over 1.1 million video views. While news reports on the incident have appeared on various media outlets, we think the whole video looks staged. Might this be a stealth ad for Steinway?
