The 3rd Annual Regional China Spelling Bee happens this weekend — it’s assembled China’s top spellers and the winner of the tournament will be flying for the US for more cutthroat spelling competition. ‘ENTER’ PERFORMANCE ART PARTY LAUNCH ENTER is a performance art experiment and they’re launching with a party with a program of dance, theatre, music, movies. They’ll be following that up every Thursday to Sunday during the JUE festival until April 3rd. ANNUAL REGIONAL SPELLING BEE See 33 of China’s top spellers from Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou go head to head in the Community Center Shanghai 3rd Annual China Regional Spelling Bee. As part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, a US competition inaugurated in 1925, the China Regional Champion will go on to compete in Washington, D.C. come June. The day will include provided food and drink, entertainment by the local international schools and a lucky draw. 20RMB tickets available at the Shanghai Centre ticket office. GOURMET TRAVELER TRIP TO CHONGMING ISLAND Part of JUE Festival, this is a day trip to Chongming Island dedicated to field recording. Bring your own bike, water and a snack and cycle around the island with a recorder. A mini bus will leave Gourmet Traveler at 7am and during the ride there will be an intro to the day’s activities. The bus will leave Chongming Island around 4:30pm and performances of participants’ sound recordings will take place at a TBD venue, in Shanghai, around 8pm. RMB160 includes transportation and use of a recorder.

FARMER’S MARKETThe first farmers market of 2011. This event will once again become a regular feature. It will be held on the third Sunday of every month except July & August throughout the year.
