Are you one of the many people spooked by Japan’s upgrading of its nuclear accident level from 4 to 5? There is no good reason to be!
Shanghai Daily assures us that the city is too far away from the Fukushima nuclear plant to present any danger even under the worst-case scenario of a nuclear fallout:
Shen Sen, senior engineer at the Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute, said: “Shanghai is over 2,000 kilometers from the nuclear plant. Such a long distance can dilute almost all the radioactive substances, whose control area is usually 30 kilometers.”
While low levels of radiation have been detected in Tokyo, located some 240km away from Fukushima, those levels are too low to pose any health threat to humans. Shanghai is about nine times further away from Fukushima than Tokyo is. So relax, people, relax!
