R.I.P. 10rmb beers and 5rmb chips.
Oh no, when did this happen? When biking through Huashan Lu the other day, we noticed that one of our favorite Mexican joints – Adobo Latin Flavor – had closed down. It’s now replaced with a hot pot chain. What a shame – with the temperature warming, we were hoping to spend at least a night or two on their tiny little balcony area drinking late night happy hour beer.
Still, there’s a whole bunch of other restaurants opening up their terraces. Both Downstairs and The Fat Olive will have their outdoor spaces ready by Friday. Hopefully the weather will continue to heat up enough to make using them pleasant.

Fat Olive // 6/F, Silver Court Complex, 228 Xizang Nan Lu (西藏南路228号6楼)
Also coming up: birthdays! Mi Tierra celebrates their first year in Shanghai tonight. Unfortunately, it seems like the party’s price is quite steep – 148rmb for entry (with “free” canapés to pass around), but then you pay “special prices” for drinks after.
Mi Tierra // 17 Yongjia Lu (永嘉路17号)
On Friday, meanwhile, divey institution I Love Shanghai celebrates its sixth birthday with a toga party. There’s no cover charge and absinthe will be served. Animals! Just what anyone would expect from a place known for its Beer Pong nights.

Also this weekend, new wine bar in town Fossette officially opens its doors with two-days of celebrations. From 7pm to 2am on both Saturday and Sunday, they promise free flow of tapas, good prices on bottles and everybody dressed with hints of red. They got good reviews from Enjoy Shanghai and City Weekend, so it may be worth checking out.
