They both look good in red…
Football fans rejoice! This summer brings us not one European giant of a football club, but TWO. Both Liverpool and Real Madrid have announced plans for preseason games in China to
cash in onappease their enormous Chinese fan bases. Real Madrid has two games planned, Guangzhou on August 3 and Tianjin on August 6. Liverpool will play three matches across Asia in July, beginning also with Guangzhou, then moving on to Kuala Lumpur and Seoul.
The games will be a welcome respite from a local league plagued by so many scandals it’s hardly worth watching anymore. Although to be fair, it’s not as if we go to Shenhua games for the quality of play or reliability of results. We go for the screaming of obscenities and the burning of Beijing jerseys!
Both teams are no doubt hugely popular on the mainland, with stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka playing for Real, and Steven Gerrard and Dirk Kuyt for Liverpool. Real Madrid alone claims to have over 100 million supporters on the mainland. So get your elbows out and ready, we’ll let you know the second we hear about tickets.
