This one popped up randomly on our radar last minute, but apparently there is a TED conference happening this weekend(!)–the independently organized TEDxFiveStarSquare. They’ve put together 18 speakers, a diverse group of academics, chefs, musicians, entrepreneurs, and artists who will step on stage to share their ideas.
Why the (long, cumbersome) name?
“Five Star” connotes China, while “Square” stands for a committed and sharing community. Based on our core idea “RE”, we try to dig out the new value behind everything, and bring our participants a Local, Sharp, and Spirited TED experience.
The conference, whose theme is “Re”vent, divides their speakers into four parts: “Reflect, Revolute, Renovate and Renaissance. Reflect features in rediscovering life, success, happiness, our past, present and future. Revolute will redefine traditional and emerging industries, technology and innovation. Renovate focuses on refinement in quality of business, welfare, education and society as a whole. Renaissance will recreate the experience of audio, visual, beauty and art.”
No charge to participate, but it’s limited to 300 people and registration is required in advance. TED’s always a bit choosy with their audience so don’t half-ass the form!
