And we thought we were melodramatic. On Tuesday afternoon in Changchun, 22-year-old Li Mou (李某) of Jilin province was rescued from a suicide attempt while dressed in a white wedding gown and cream-colored high heels.
Witnesses say that she began sitting and crying on a 7th floor window ledge of her apartment building at 3pm, and that a bandage showing faint traces of blood was visible on her left wrist. Li ignored the pleas of the local sub-district office head Guo Zhongfan (郭中凡), who spent 40 minutes trying to talk her off the ledge. Members of her family were also present, with Li’s mother at one point exacerbating the situation by banging her fists against window glass.
At 4:21pm, Li suddenly pushed off from the ledge, and Guo reached out and managed to grab the damsel in the distress’s neck and wedding dress, eventually pulling her back inside with help from someone supporting Li’s feet from the 6th floor. She was reportedly suspended for 54 seconds before being pulled to safety.
Li apparently became distraught when her boyfriend of four years Wang Mou (王某) suggested that the couple should split after the two had made plans to get married.
At one point, Li also threw her cell phone and wallet at the crowd gathered in the street, with her wallet containing several hundred RMB, five photographs depicting four different women and one man, along with a student ID from Changchun Tax College.
The Youku video below shows Li sitting on the ledge until the 50 second mark, with the clip then jumping to Guo holding onto her by the neck, before pulling her back inside the building at 1:16.
