In coordination with Chinese software company Giant Interactive Group, the People’s Liberation Army has developed China’s newest first person shooter; Glorious Mission. So what is the big deal? Well, Glorious Mission happens to be the first shooter to pit Chinese forces against U.S. Combatants, and – to no surprise – the United States are not happy with this premise.
Glorious Mission, while although only a training tool for the PLA, is causing outrage among commentators such as Ed Flanagan who thinks that this game will lead young Chinese teenagers to believe that the U.S is an enemy of the People’s Republic, not a friend.
When questioned about why the game was created , PLA officials replied that since most military simulation games are created outside of China, this gives China a chance to install Chinese values and discipline among it’s large gaming community.
In any event, this American writer just wants a new game to shoot people and blow things up, regardless of who it is or who I happen to be playing.
