It seems as though young women have to be really careful around Shanghai these days. Just last month, two Shanghainese men went on trial for allegedly raping a French intern… and now, another school scandal has been put forth. As reported by Shanghai Daily, a man is being held for trying to rape a 22 year old female at Donghua University campus. The man lured his victim to an empty room of the university by posing as a deaf-mute Japanese student, showing her his cell phone with words saying he had lost his way and needed help.
In truth, the attacker is a 19-year-old unemployed man from Sichuan Province.
During his rape-attempt the imposer showed his victim a message claiming that he did it “for the sake of Sino-Japanese friendship.” Thankfully, the girl was able to flee, after biting her attacker to get free. Also luckily, a group of students, who had heard her cries for help, were able to catch the guy.
During the investigations it was found out that this was not the first attack by the man, but that at least 4 other female students had been sexually harassed by him before. He had even been reported by students on campus, but had been able to elude the admittedly little security effort until now. The police are now asking other victims of the man to come forward as well.
Whether the offender really is disabled or not is now being tested. If he really was, he, according to Chinese law, could be given a more lenient sentence for the crime than the average of three to 10 years in jail.
