Looks like Arsenal has jumped on the preseason China tour train, alongside Liverpool and Real Madrid, who both announced preseason Asia tours last month. Arsenal announced this week that they will play three games in Asia, the first two in Malaysia and the last in Yiwu, China on July 16. Woohoo! When both Liverpool and Real scheduled games in Guangzhou (and one in Tianjin) we thought the Shanghai area was getting the shaft completely. But Yiwu is only a short train ride away!
Take a look at Arsenal and Real’s promotional videos for the tour – clearly they are at least aware of the potential value of their Chinese market. I think Arsenal coach Wenger makes the most valiant effort. Ronaldo doesn’t even bother to speak in Chinese.
So who’s going to tell Xabier “Xabi” Alonso what his nickname means in Chinese?
Videos after the jump…

For those of you without a VPN:
Arsenal promo (much more admirable effort to string together sentences – and the Chinese subtitles cutely make fun of all the mispronunciations):
Sans VPN (skip to 1:04 for the Chinese bits):
Arsenal also put together an extended clip where they gush about how excited they are to come to China. Well played:
