The highly publicized trial of Yao Jiaxin, the 21 year old piano student who stabbed a woman to death after knocking her over with his car, finally has come to an end. Yao lost his supreme court appeal and was executed today says The Guardian. Yao was studying at the Xian Conservatory of Music when he collided with 26-year-old Zhang Miao described by Yao in his court testimony as a “peasant woman”. She only suffered minor injuries but Yao became enraged when he saw her jotting down his license plate number, pulled out a knife and stabbed her eight times until she died. Yao’s middle class background sparked significant resentment and hatred online and was often portrayed to be a class controversy similar to “My Dad is Li Gang”-gate.
