Designer John Galliano may have fallen from grace but the Lady Dior handbag hasn’t. Until June 15th, standing at the center atrium of Plaza 66 is a traveling art show devoted to the legacy of the Lady Dior purse. Beijing Photospace:”The show features an array of renowned photographers, filmmakers, and visual artists, who were asked to create work inspired by the iconic Lady Dior handbag; which was made famous in 1995 when the first edition was given to Princess Diana by the first lady of France, Bernadette Chirac. Participating artists include Kourtney Roy, Kohei Nawa, Peter Lindbergh and Olympia Scarry, as well as China’s Quentin Shih.”
At the very heart of the pentagonal set up is a dark room playing short films. There’s space to recline in their inset Dior-patterned seating and watch Marion Cotillard’s acting chops including one film where she has a passionate fling with a Shanghai man. Of if you fancy, you can “design” your own digital Dior handbag. Just as you exit there is a rotating 3D holigram of a Lady Dior handbag. With the help of one of the staff, you can select a color, pattern, and other ways to decorate your bag. Once you’re happy with your design, you pose as if you’re holding the purse and they send it to your email. Don’t miss out!
