We found out the official start date of the train last week, and now after lots of vague talk of making tickets cheaper and more competitive with flights, we finally have an idea of the prices! Basically the spread is from 410RMB to 1,750RMB. Here’s how those prices break down:
There will be two speeds of train, 300 km/h and 250 km/h. The faster train will take 4hr 58min and will charge 555RMB for second class, 935RMB for first class, and a “Business Block” for 1750RMB.
The slower train will take 7hr 56min and will cost 410RMB for second class and 650RMB for first class.
There are a total of 63 high-speed trains and 27 not-so-high-speed trains on the tracks (if my math skills serve, that puts us at about 2 trains per hour, each way?)
The prices are much better than expected. 555RMB is about the same price as the cheaper flights you’ll find online. Which definitely makes them competetive, and convenient for those of us prone to spontaneously skip town for the weekend.
