In case you missed it yesterday, Li Na, the great Chinese hope, was beaten out of Wimbledon by German tennis star Sabine Lisicki.
This comes only three weeks after Li Na rose to be one of China’s biggest sporting heroes by becoming the first Asian tennis player to win a Grand Slam singles title at the French Open.
Clearly she was frustrated.
Li complained that she doesn’t ‘wish to be burdened with all China’s hopes.’ In addition, she also criticized Chinese male tennis players as being ‘lazy’, and declared that, ‘the women are doing a good job…I wish one day the men can grow up also.’
When asked about growing the game amongst young Chinese girls Li said, ‘Everyone is different. I don’t want them to copy from me. I would like to say I believe that someday they can do even better than me, so they don’t need to copy me.’
Sounds like someone wasn’t ready for new found fame…
