If you weren’t aware, the Chinese national basketball team is currently touring Australia in the inaugural YouYi (友谊, “friendship”) Games. Besides their miserable results, the Chinese team had other things to worry about down under… namely, the Dalai Lama.
Australian basketball star Cameron Tragardh tweeted the following:
“The Chinese National Basketball Team is staying 3 hours away from Perth and won’t come here until the Dalai Lama leaves! #serious.”
The team arrived in Western Australia on Sunday, but upon landing immediately drove three hours and 270km south to Bunker Bay. They returned to Perth on Tuesday to stay in the hotel the Dalai Lama had vacated only one day earlier. “Sources say” the Dalai Lama was the reason behind this two-day detour.
However, according to former basketball star and YouYi Games creator Andrew Vlahov:
“That’s bull—t….They are under contract with WA Tourism to do South-West photos.”
We don’t know who’s got their story straight, but it seems the Dalai Lama’s tour of Australia is reaching its humor potential and then some.
