Authorities have arrested a man for setting off a remotely-controlled bomb in a supermarket in the Shanghai suburb of Jiading at about 2pm yesterday. The man, who has now confessed, supposedly planted the bomb in a locker of an RT-Mart on Xinyu Rd (near Cao’an Road) and then called the supermarket around 1:10pm threatening to set it off.
Police were called in and almost everybody was successfully evacuated before the explosion. No injuries have been reported, and the police remained on scene late into the evening last night.
Supposedly, they arrested the suspect within three hours, after he was found wandering around Huangdu “looking suspicious.” He was then immediately taken to court, and afterwards made a full confession.
The whole thing feels rushed and a little bizarre. No mention of a motive has been made, even after he confessed. Most likely, authorities are trying to wrap this one up quick and keep the media attention to a minimum, considering the fallout from all the other bombings in recent months.
