China’s largest egg producer, Hubei Shendan Healthy Food Co, is unhappy with CNNGo’s placing of century eggs on a list of “most revolting” foods from around the world. The company has apparently filed an official complaint with CNNGo’s parent company, CNN itself, demanding that it apologise for calling the century egg a “revolting” food.
The complaint, filed on behalf of the chairman of the company and it’s 3,000 employees, said: “CNN’s report, based on evaluations made by those who are even not consumers of pi dan, was obviously conducted in an unscientific way… The conclusion it has come up with only proved its ignorance and arrogance, as well as a complete lack of respect for cultural traditions in other countries.”
CNNGo’s “report”, however, was not really a report, rather a list put together through submissions by readers of the lifestyle website. A clarification by CNNGo said: “CNNGo would like to clarify that this article was based on ‘iReport’ submissions, namely content submitted by our readers from around the world, and as such represent their personal opinions. We welcome any further suggestions for this article.”
Does the company have a really thin hide? Or is it just another savvy marketer that knows just how to get into the press? You decide.
