Oh the sheer audacity.
Tennis star Li Na (李娜), who recently became the first Chinese player, and the first national of an Asian country to bring home a Grand Slams title, has turned down an offer by the local government of her native Hubei Province to be the deputy head of the provincial tennis administration centre.
Li was quoted in the AFP as saying, “I heard about it but haven’t taken it seriously. I am not capable of managing others. Even if I do, I can only handle my husband Jiang Shan.”
“In addition, I am still playing now. I don’t have the energy for other things right now,” she added.
Seriously, now. How dare she. To think the Hubei government gave her an additional 600,000 yuan on top of her US$1.65 million French Open prize money. Ingrate.
