Jiang Zemin’s has recovered from his “high fever”, says Taiwan broadcaster CTI
Xinhua News Agency has refuted earlier reports by Hong Kong broadcaster ATV and other foreign news outlets that former paramount leader Jiang Zemin (江泽民) has died.
“Recent reports of some overseas media organisations about Jiang Zemin’s death from illness are ‘pure rumour,'” reported the agency, citing “authoritative” sources.
The report by ATV was widely believed to be true in Hong Kong because among its major shareholders is Wang Zheng (王征), a relative of the 84-year-old former president.
According to Taiwan news outlets, Jiang’s family members are livid about the “rumours” but conceded that he was not in the best of health.
Taiwan broadcaster CTI (中天新闻) reports that Jiang was hospitalised because of a “high fever” but he has since recovered and is now out of intensive care.
Jiang Zemin made his last public appearance last November in Dujiangyan. Because an ambulance was a part of a convoy following him wherever he went, rumours of his rapidly deteriorating health have been rife since then.
