New details have been released about the previously mentioned 2 foreign citizens killed in the Wenzhou high speed rail disaster. An elderly Chinese-American couple, aged 56 and 57, were confirmed amongst the 39-43 fatalities claimed by the tragedy (official reports claim that some bodies were counted twice…how reassuring).
Another unidentified Caucasian woman was also amongst the fatalities, bringing the total number of confirmed foreign deaths to three.
China Daily also reports that two overseas Chinese males, one 23 year-old Italian and one 31 year-old American, were also seriously injured in the disaster, and are being treated at the No 2 and No 3 People’s Hospitals in Wenzhou, respectively.
Curiously, the new ID-required ticketing system, which went into effect at the beginning of this month for high-speed trains, means that foreign passengers shouldn’t be too difficult to identify. And yet, details on the deceased foreign nationals are still mostly scant and unavailable.
