What’s that joyful noise? It’s the sound of people shrieking upon hearing the news that immaculately cheek-boned frontman Brett Anderson (last in Shanghai for a solo gig in 2010) and his reunited Suede band chums will be performing at a venue near you! Currently on their first Asian tour since 2003, the band will be performing in Shanghai for only the second time ever, at the Shanghai Grand Stage (recently host to fellow UK pop-chart veterans The Cranberries) next Tuesday, August 9th.
Suede (Chinese name: 山羊皮, which translates as Mountain Goat Skin!) are of course the mid-nineties Britpop critical darlings from London who got millions of heads to bob along with their prodigiously catchy single, ‘The Beautiful Ones’, off their UK platinum-selling third album ‘Coming Up’. The accompanying video for the 1996 hit still manages to be fresh, what with its clever brand re-imaginings and general word-image-association wizardry that hadn’t really been emulated before or since.
You can get tickets here, and apparently a buy one get one free deal is going for tickets priced at 880RMB and 1080RMB. The cheapest tickets at 280RMB are already sold out, so don’t dawdle!

Suede is also performing in Singapore on Wednesday, August 3rd, in Taipei on Friday, August 5th, and in Beijing on Sunday, August 7th.
And lest we forget, Grammy-nominated recording artist James Blunt is also coming to town, and will be performing at the Mercedes-Benz Arena on August 21st for the last Asian tour date in his current world tour. Yes, yes, that ‘You’re Beautiful’ guy, James Blunt Trauma. The former British Army officer who put down his automatic weapons and picked up a guitar, going on to slay millions of women with vocal chirpings worthy of a thousand rom-com climactic kiss scenes.
Obviously, we don’t have a collegiate-age white girlfriend. Otherwise, we’d be singing a more enthusiastic quavery tune in regards to Mr. Blunt making a Shanghai appearance.
Tickets for James Blunt range from 480RMB to 1599RMB, and can be found here. As with Suede, the cheapest tickets at 280RMB already sold out.
