It seems like everybody is getting on the “Make a movie in China” train. There was John Cusack in Shanghai last year, then Hugh Jackman in Wendy Deng’s Snow Flower & The Secret Fan. There’s even a Disney reinterpretation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves that will take place here. So perhaps its not surprising that our favorite time traveler-turned-surf cop-turned-virtual reality messiah has jumped aboard as well.
Keanu Reeves is allegedly in negotiations with China Film Group and Village Roadshow Pictures for a Mandarin-and-English language movie called “Man of Tai Chi,” according to Reuters.
The film would mark several firsts for the action star – it’s his directorial debut and his first time working in a Chinese-produced film… it may also be the first script he’s written (probably).
That last part is the most surprising. Sure, we knew he had some Chinese in him but we had no idea he’d be comfortable enough in the language to actually try to script something (that one scene in The Day the Earth Stood Still where he tries out his Mandarin doesn’t help).
