Whoo-wee what a storm we had this morning! Heavy clouds rolled in and started dumping on us around 7:30am, went nuts for about two hours, and resulted in 17 canceled flights and flooding all over the city. Thanks to all loyal weibo-using Shanghai residents out there with their phone cameras handy, here’s a nice photo collection of the madness.
Flooding took its craziest form over in Lujiazui, where water eventually formed a lake over and intersection and caused a massive traffic jam.
Over at Caoyang Lu station on metro line 3, a leak in the ceiling resulted in water gushing down from the roof “like a waterfall, forcing the station workers to open an emergency exit to drain the flood and close the two escalators,” according to Shanghai Daily.
From the forecast, it looks like we’re only in for more of the same this weekend (except even warmer temperatures – yuck!), but don’t worry! Things
should might clear up by next week.
