Earlier this year we brought you some rare color photographs from Shanghai in the 1980s. This time we have another collection from 1986 for your nostalgic viewing pleasure.
The photo credits belong to an American, David G (葛大为) who visited Shanghai numerous times starting from 1978.
In these photos you can see people gazing from the Bund at a non-existent Pudong, a silk shop in Laoximen, and photos from the Shanghai train station (including steam engines). There’s also a shot of People’s Square, window shoppers on Nanjing East Road, and a glimpse of Huaihai Road. The long orange buses that you can see in two pictures were known colloquially at the time as “Giant Dragon Buses” (巨龙车).
