Li Yang and Kim Lee in happier times.
The woman that’s been going on Sina Weibo to accuse Crazy English founder Li Yang of domestic violence, says she now wants to divorce him for the sake of her children.
She also revealed that the celebrity English teacher has gotten in touch with her — via text message — asking her to shut down her Weibo account which has now attracted to close to 30,000 followers.
For now, nobody can be sure that the person behind the microblog account is indeed Li Yang’s wife Kim Lee, but there appears to be widespread consensus that she is the one.
Old pictures of Kim in happier times dug out by Chinese media (see video after jump) bear a high degree of resemblance to the woman in the pictures that we’ve seen.
Also, there are three mixed-race kids featured in the profile picture of the Weibo account. These children have been identified by the press as Li Li, Li Na and Li Hua — and this jives with the nickname of the account, “Li-Na-Hua’s Mom”.
One article we’ve seen confirms Kim’s assertion yesterday that Li Yang had previously gone on television to tell the world that he did not love her. In one TV interview, Li said that they got to know each other when Kim arrived in China in 1999. Kim showed great interest in Chinese pedagogical methods, said Li, and abandoned her job in Miami to come teach English in China.
“Subsequently, I found out that she came to China because she wanted to have babies with a Chinese man, and so I agreed. Our child grew up in the United States till she was about two. When we moved her to China, we discovered that she was very different from other two-year-old Chinese kids. She was very independent. So, in order to research American family life and education, I decided to marry her,” said Li in the interview.
When asked if the differences in culture had an impact on family life, Li added, “There’ve been major clashes. Everyday there are clashes. It’s very difficult for two people of different cultures to get together. [The marriage] certainly wasn’t for love or romance, or anything like that. I decided to try it out simply because I wanted to know just how different American family life and education was.”
Spoken like a true c*nt indeed. But fortunately, karma’s coming to bite him in the arse real soon.
Sina Weibo users have been actively retweeting Kim’s weibo posts. The picture of her injured ear alone has been shared 24,000 times.
Kim has been tweeting profusely all of yesterday, giving her account of what Li Yang’s been doing to her in agonising detail.

Children learn what they live. If my girls see Li Yang beat me, they will grow up feeling this is normal behavior, it is ok for men to beat women. In the future if they are beaten, it would be 100% my fault. They learned this horrible lesson from me.
Li Yang, why do you call me if you can only want to tell me my character problem caused you to beat me? I admit, I was yelling and you told me to shut up and I did not. But you could have lwalked out.
You knocked me to the floor. You sat on my back. You choked my neck with both hands and slammed my head into the flloor. When I pried your hands from my neck you grabbed my hair and slammed my head into the floor ten more times!
My back is weak after having kids. You weigh much more than me. Lydia screamed and scratched your arm to get you to stop. When you did, I got up, grabbed our passports, grabbed her and ran to the police station.
The police officers were shocked but efficient and kind. They immediately sent me to the hospital. They tried to call you several times. They asked what I wanted to do, did I want to press charges or just have you come in and talk to domestic affairs officer. I sent you a message
Our kids are now in bed and I sit here crying as I write this. I sent you a message that you had to go to the police station. You ignored it. I just wanted you to talk to someone. I begged you to see a counselor before this happened many times. I have given you a week to get help
The time on my hospital admission slip is 2:15. CT scan 2:46 You were posting slogans on your weibo. I was in the hospital alone with Lydia and you were in a TV studio like nothing happened. This is not right!
You are an educated person. You must recognize this behavior is not mentally sound. I must divorce you for the sake of our girls. I will never teach them to hate you, you are their father. I will teach them to hate your behavior.
Li Yang, Your silence today says everything. Good Night.
[Posted this morning] I only wanted LY to seek professional help. I will now send my elder girls to school and return to the police station to request the copy of the report I filed that day. Thank you to all the sincere and loving people who offered support and advice on what I should do.
UPDATE: While Li Yang continues to remain silent, his sister Li Ning who serves as director of Crazy English’s intensive training camps, has spoken to the media. She said that while she has seen the microblog postings, she can’t be sure that it really is Kim because the pictures don’t show her complete face. Furthermore, the account hasn’t been verified.
She then launched into a smear campaign: “I have been in touch with Kim quite a lot. She is a very emotional person, often gets hysterical, and sometimes even abuses herself. Because there are great differences in Chinese and American cultures, their marriage has been very unharmonious. Li Yang travels for business frequently, and when he returns to Beijing, Kim sometimes forbids him to go out.”
When it comes to the children’s education, Kim has been adamant about not putting the kids through the Chinese system, and has been home-schooling them herself. Eventually, Li Yang had no choice but to send the kids to an international school, said Li Ning.
“Despite all these differences, Li Yang would never hit someone,” she asserted.
Li Ning claims to be unable to reach her brother herself, but promised to provide more details to the press once she got in touch with him.
