Two teenagers have been detained by Beijing police in a road rage incident that has come to be widely compared with the “My Dad is Li Gang” case. One of them is Li Tianyi, the 15-year-old son of PLA singer Li Shuangjiang (李双江), a regular staple at government events and a celebrity in his own right.
Li Junior was driving what looks to be a modified BMW 6 series AC Schnitzer ACS6 without a number plate, while his friend was in an Audi with a fake number plate (晋0 00888). When the car in front slowed down to turn into a residential compound, the young brats got out of their cars, went to the couple in the car in front of them, and beat the living daylights out of them while their 5-year-old daughter was crying her lungs out in the back seat. A sub-machine gun was also photographed in the backseat of Li’s BMW.
By this time, residents of the compound had gathered around, but Li Junior reportedly shouted at them, “Who dares call 110?” Someone called the police anyway, and they swiftly arrived and detained Li Junior and his buddy who by this time were hiding in the bushes.
In an interview with talk show host Lu Yu years ago, Li Shuangjiang said that he “dared not offend” his son and that children belong to the country. His wife, Meng Ge (梦鸽), also a singer, played the role of the Tiger Mother at home, it was revealed on the show.
Arriving at the hospital yesterday with a media entourage in tow, the 72-year-old Li begged the injured couple for forgiveness, saying he was the one at fault for being a bad father and for not having inculcated the right values in his son. “I would rather you hit me with a stick,” he reportedly said to the couple.
The case remains under police investigation.
