Legislators are in the final stages of designing a new law to tackle the scourge of domestic violence, a leading women’s rights campaigner said on Wednesday.
“It’s time to move forward,” said Liu Bohong, deputy director of the Women’s Studies Institute of China. “The proposed law will make a huge difference in protecting human rights, especially for the victims of domestic violence.”
Despite the progress, she said she is still unable to predict when the law will actually be passed.
It’s 2011 and there’s no law to protect women against getting smashed into a pulp by their husbands? Colour us flabbergasted!
Chinese feminists probably never understood why they’ve been ignored year after year after year — the one single catalyst they needed was a crazed celebrity teacher.
And if we’re right to say the timing all of this wasn’t just a coincidence, then China’s 600 million women might have something to thank this guy for.
Way to go, Li Yang! What a spectacular way to go down in history!
