Eleven people so far have been killed and 13 injured when a bus traveling at high speed overturned in what has become the deadliest Shanghai automobile-related accident in recent years. The bus was traveling on the Pudong outer-ring expressway near Longdong Road when the accident occurred at 8:54pm last night .
The cause of the crash as of now remains unclear, but preliminary reports suggest the bus driver lost control and veered into a light pole before overturning potentially due to another driver overtaking improperly.
Seven died immediately at the scene and a further three died in the hospital due to injuries. Of those injured, one remains in critical condition.
The vehicle was a staff bus owned and operated by Inventec, a Shanghai based manufacturer of notebook computers and other electronic devices, and all 24 passengers aboard were Inventec employees.
