You can start lining up now, Apple
Borg devotees! Word on the internet street says that Shanghai’s third Apple Store, located at the tourist-trap section of East Nanjing Road, will open before China’s National Day on October 1st, and even possibly as soon as next week. Perfect timing for the Golden Week hordes!
The store is basically the size of a city block, and will be anywhere between 3 to 5 floors of retail space, meaning the lines for the iPhone 5 will potentially turn Nanjing Road into a massive impenetrable thicket composed of resellers, hipster geeks, and the sort of girls who use their own portrait as the background on their phones.
It’ll be Apple’s fifth Store on the mainland, with two already in Beijing. Meanwhile, Hong Kong is getting its first ever Apple Store on the 24th of this month. And since it’s Hong Kong, that means our collectively lusted-after glass and brushed metal objets d′art will be tax-free! Well played, Hong Kong, well played.
