Have you ever wondered why older generations always seem to think younger generations are crazy? Allow us to explain by presenting a simple example: whereas elderly Chinese have always envisioned China’s map outline as resembling a rooster, the latest online trend (no doubt cooked up by young rapscallions) has been turning the map of China into an assortment of saucy anime characters.
Other countries accounted for in the map mockups are Japan as a mermaid, England as a faerie in one rendition and a cyborg fencer in another, Korea as an androgynous blob and as a super cute elephant, and India as a surprisingly well drawn Silk Road era merchant.
Before you get too many ideas from the first two pictures, we’d like to point out that she is holding what appears to be a stamp seal, not a different object used for other “purposes”.
And in case it isn’t obvious, the seal-holder and the classic beauty in image 9 have managed to incorporate China’s South China Seas territorial claim into their dresses. What cheek!
Though the trend undoubtedly started in Japan on 2ch (as most things anime related do) we haven’t been able to find any pictures proving it. In fact, the only thing we did find resembling the anthropomorphic maps in the gallery above is this strange map depicting European countries as ruffians fighting with swords.
As for the United States, well… see for yourselves.
