Every year around National Day we wonder what exotic locales, interesting landmarks and unique experiences we’re missing out on by staying home over Golden Week. Luckily for our conscience, five minutes on Weibo alleviated all misgivings about even thinking about stepping foot outside. The photos of these massive crowds make it pretty clear staring at the back of someone’s head is definitely not the preferred way to waste away our lazy days.
300 million Chinese were expected to travel this year, and on the first day alone, nine million rode a train somewhere, while seven million used the Metro system in Shanghai.
Unless you enjoy the random smells of strangers and the increased chance of someone ganking your wallet, you’re like us and enjoy Golden Week with Firefly marathons, 2am sessions of Minecraft, and copious amounts of alcohol pizza delivery. If that isn’t a Golden Week, we don’t know what is.
