Yup, this is what it’s like.
Get your eyeballs ready! IMAX will be installing another 15 of their highfalutin’ theaters throughout China, in a new joint-venture with South Korea’s CJ GGV Holdings Ltd. No doubt eager to cater to the country’s growing numbers of cinema-goers that every silver-haired media bigwig worth their salt wants a piece of, IMAX will be installing the first of its theaters this year, with the rest to be rolled out between 2013 to 2017.
Currently, there are five 3D IMAX theaters in Shanghai open for your viewing pleasure, which you can find here.
Two other theaters are currently listed as Coming Soon (perhaps the two favorite words of the cinephile), in Minhang’s Xinzhuang (莘庄) and Pudong’s Zhoupu Town (周浦镇).
A 2D IMAX Dome also resides at the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum, which we’re pretty sure works out well for documentaries about the cosmos and some pretty killer laser shows.

Now, all that’s left to do is to pray for certain banned 3D films to get the mainland green-light. Then 3D in China will have definitively arrived.
