Piano prodigy Niu Niu @ Shanghai Oriental Art Center 14-year-old piano prodigy Zhang Shengliang (affectionately nicknamed “Niu Niu”) hails from Xiamen and has toured all over Asia. Tonight he’ll be performing with the Lucern Festival Strings from Switzerland. He is the youngest person to ever have recorded all of Chopin’s etudes, and has appeared at music festivals in Paris and Minneapolis.

RAS Lecture – Matthew Niederhauser @ Radisson Xingguo Hotel. The Royal Asiatic Society sponsors a lecture by photographer Matthew Niederhauser called Counterfeit Paradises: Youth Culture and Urban Development in China, in which he’ll speak about his experiences following and photographing musicians in the notorious Beijing rock scene. His work has been published in his most recent book, Sound Kapital.
