Okay we still can’t get our hands on an embed code yet, but you can watch part of Jon Huntsman’s interview on the Colbert Report here. He talks about his Mormonism and, of course, speaks some Chinese. (Just can’t get enough of making those strange sounds come out of a white dude’s mouth, eh America?) Ever the charmer, Huntsman obliges the usual request by saying, in Mandarin, “I wish you’d be my running mate, Stephen” (我很想你做我的副美国总统).
Something you won’t see in the interview, however, is the big gaffe he makes right after Colbert cues some Chinese music. From ABC News:
When Colbert played a sound effect of a stereotypical Chinese riff, Huntsman joked, “When’s the delivery food coming?” After a few seconds of awkward silence, Colbert replied, “Did that go over well in Beijing?” This portion of the interview was cut for time from the broadcast.
“There was a gasp,” audience member Dana Cole told ABC News. “A little tasteless. No one really saw it coming. He got ahead of himself. ”
Ahead of himself, indeed.
