Chinese netizens are swarming over a story about an elderly woman with only 2RMB shown kindness and given a free bowl of soup by a conscientious waitress in a Chongqing restaurant.
The following story has been forwarded over 60,000 times on Weibo in the past 12 hours. Simple enough to be appreciated by all, this story is serving as a healing salve for the societal wounds suffered from Yueyue’s death and more recently from the allegations that a prior good Samaritan act in Shanghai that received a lot of attention was staged.
At noon today, an 80-year-old woman sat down at a restaurant and asked the waitress, “I only have two RMB, I would like a bowl of soup.” Because the old lady had bad hearing, her speaking was unclear. Regardless, I was still able to clearly understand her feelings of helplessness. The old woman was on the verge of tears when the waitress arrived with a bowl of soup with egg. Peering inside the old woman quickly said, “I can’t afford egg, I only have two RMB.” The waitress replied, “It’s on the house, please enjoy.”
