The Apartment is a generally a pretty classy place, but one of our readers recently tipped us off to some shenanigans occurring over the weekend at the Yongfu Lu mainstay:
I don’t know if you have already received information about this, but the lounge bar “The Apartment” was a complete and total mess this weekend. They overbooked for the holiday and had a huge line of people with reservations out the door.
They decided the best way to deal with this was by getting big and stupid Chinese thugs to control the crowd. There were customers getting into verbal arguments with the bouncers all around.
I was one of them. I simply wanted to get to my group of friends who were already in line about 2 meters away from me.
One of these thugs pushed me back, called me crazy, and told me to leave. I refused, saying I had a reservation and that I simply wanted to get in line with my friends…I even explained this to him in Chinese.
He decided then that he needed to grab me, push me against the wall, and drag me out down the stairs and out of the bar. My friend tried to get him off me, and they ended up dragging her down the stairs as well.
I told another friend about what happened the next morning and he said that he had also been at The Apartment about 30 minutes later and that he had been kicked down the stairs as he was exiting.
I have never been kicked out of a bar, much less dragged out. Anyone who knows me knows I am not one to get into a fight if I can avoid it. This was ridiculous.
I have bruises all over my body. I also believe there were a number of other similar altercations that night, but do not have details.
If only there were people this vigilant about lining up properly at train station ticket booths! Now that’d be something.
If you have any details on what happened at The Apartment over the weekend, please leave a comment below, or email us at [email protected]

UPDATE: The Apartment has responded.
