After showing up on campus for the first time last week, Yao Ming officially attended his first classes yesterday, two months late into the semester. After speculation over his intended major a few months ago, it is now confirmed that he is enrolled in the Antai College of Economics and Management at Shanghai Jiaotong University, but will also study finance and journalism. Pictures of him concentrating/looking confused have since flooded local media, along with an adorable video of his first day back at school.
Greeted by applause in his first class, we’re assuming students spent the rest of the hour trying to play it cool while slyly recording him from their cell phones. On his first day, he attended mathematics, English, and modern Chinese history classes, sitting in the back like a baller on tailor-made giant-sized chairs. He also gave a short press conference, which reportedly caused chaos among any lectures that were in session at the time.
While he decided against private tuition in favor of “the atmosphere on campus”, Yao also voiced concerns that his schedule was too busy: “I think I need a better schedule as I cannot study full-time as a normal college student. I’ve got other things to do and I need to balance my time.”
Keep it up big guy! The pictures of him trying to scribble on white boards that come up to his kneecaps are just too precious.
