Looks like Scissor Sisters’ infectious disco jams aren’t quite the Ministry of Culture’s cup of tea! The New York queens didn’t get their Chinese entry visa approved, meaning their show next month at the Mixing Room & Muse has been canceled. The ghost of Björk haunts us still!
Time Out Shanghai reports that frontman Jake Shears was rather looking forward to doing the city:
“Kylie [Minogue] loves Shanghai. I was just with her in the UK and we’re hoping we’ll get a day to run around the city, she says it’s just a total blast. I’ve no fucking clue about our following over there, I’m really interested to see who’ll show up at our gig. I get excited about spreading the gospel of Scissor Sisters wherever we go and if we can speak to people then that’s a really exciting thing no matter where you are.”
So how much guanxi would one need to set up a Special Entertainment Zone somewhere in Pudong, that would allow overseas acts and other spiritual pollutants to fly in and do their thing visa-free? Border security bouncers would stamp your passport and give you a wristband. It could happen!
